Our target for opening the Ski Heritage Center – Phase One is Summer, 2017.
During 2015 & 2016 we removed the entire existing kitchen, including the floor which was sagging badly. We then poured a new level concrete slab for the new floor and relocated the plumbing in order to meve the kitchen to the south wall. Thanks to Alrick Hale and Knife River for their continued support.
New windows and doors were delivered and installed last summer. Thanks to Scott Duncan and Sierra Pacific Windows for their cooperation and support.
The new layout includes 2 new offices and a much more efficient kitchen. We were fortunate to have all the kitchen cabinets & countertops donated from a remodel project in Whitefish Hills. Thanks to Barb Cooke, Ford Custom Homes and the Podlogar family. The new kitchen is nearly complete, office painting and trim is nearly done and they are nearly ready for occupancy. A BIG thanks to Dow Powell and crew for tons of work and coordination throughout the whole process! And thanks to Coaches Roy and Kurt for after-hours painting and trim carpentry.
Ross Anderson provided us with two fantastic concept sketches for exhibits based on old photos of the Hellroaring Ski Cabin and the 10th Mountain Division. Based on these sketches, Cliff Persons has constructed replica bunk beds and Ole Bircher has built a replica barrel stove for our life-size vignette exhibit portraying the inside of the ski Cabin.
In Addition, we are developing plans for a 10th Mountain Vivision "Ski Troops" exhibit. Ole Bircher is designing a ski lift display that will create a timeline from the original Hellroaring Ski Club Rope Tow of the 1930’s through the present Day, and Buck Love is heading up a committee to coordinate Ski School and Ski Patrol displays to drop into the Ski Lift Timeline.
Our new 2017 Hall of Fame inductees will bring our total inductees to 16, and these will be the cornerstone of the Ski Heritage Center Hall of Fame Exhibit.
